Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • This app turns learning the Amendments into an enjoyable game.
  • Students learn to interpret the Amendments at a high level to play the game.

Considerations

  • Legal experts may find some of the interpretations too basic and perhaps slightly inaccurate.
  • Students who have difficulties with sequential planning and speed may struggle with this app even if they understand the concepts.
  • The characters do not always move around as a player would expect which can be frustrating.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a wonderful app to teach students about the constitutional amendments in a fun and memorable way. The player begins by selecting a lawyer who specializes in one of the Amendments, e.g. the First Amendment Freedom of Speech. A potential client arrives with a lawsuit and the player must decide if there is a legal case and, if so, whether there is a qualified lawyer to take the case. Players win points when their cases are won and can use the points to hire new lawyers and/or to unlock additional skills for existing lawyers. Students must use organizational and reasoning skills to decide which cases to take, which clients to keep waiting, and which clients to assign to specific lawyers. Amendments are defined in understandable terms for today's students, and this app allows them to relate them to personal situations (e.g. Can I wear a tank top to school?). Students can go back as often as needed to review the amendments. However, keeping clients waiting can make clients angry enough to leave, so students will need to learn the Amendments to be successful. This game is a unique and enjoyable way for students to learn and apply the constitutional amendments if they can handle the mental juggling.
