Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Great opportunity to teach students new vocabulary and information in context
  • Gives students an opportunity to speak to a group and self-advocate for their response
  • Students with a weaker vocabulary can compete with more advanced students as long as they are creative

Considerations

  • There is no "right" answer so the judge must be reasonable and fair
  • Some adults may find some of the words in the deck inappropriate. It is easy to put those words aside and not use them given the large number of cards
  • Apples to Apples Jr. can be enjoyed by older students but this version is best left for students in middle school and above as the age range suggests

Mindprint Expert Review

This is an excellent family game that is thoroughly fun and a great way to develop vocabulary and flexible thinking skills. The judge selects a word card (e.g. impossible, stunning, trustworthy) and each player must select from one of the five cards in his hand that best associates with that word. The fun and learning arises when players must make creative associations and verbally advocate that his/her answer is the best. Every card has a bold-faced word and a definition. Although the words are not designed for SAT-type practice they can help students improve their vocabulary and general knowledge, although some definitions may be deemed flip and/or "inappropriate" by some adults. The game can be as short or as long as one wishes and has easy set up and clean up.
