Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Use of test tubes is appealing to any student interested in science or hands-on activities
  • Brightly-colored cylinders representing different fractional values will easily interest most students at first look
  • Good to teach relative value of simple fractions (e.g. 1/2 , 1/4 , 1/3)

Considerations

  • Promises to teach fraction addition but easy for a student to avoid true learning
  • Game is not engaging for more than a few minutes at a time

Mindprint Expert Review

This very hands-on and very visual game teaches children to compare and add simple fractions. It has so much potential, but it disappoints. Students use test tubes that equal a whole and must add brightly colored cylinders of different fractional values to their tubes. The visual and tactile aspects are fantastic and provide a great supplement for students to have a hands-on experience understanding the different values of fractions. Unfortunately, the game itself is boring and lends itself to a player eyeballing the sums and avoiding grasping the important concepts of fraction addition.

Manufacturer Description

It’s a race to “1” with this 4-player fraction game. Draw a card and find the corresponding fizzy fraction tile. Drop the tile into your cylinder. “Hold” if you think you're as close to one as you'll get without going over or draw another card if you think you can get closer by adding another fraction tile. The player who gets closest to 1 wins the round. The included multilingual guide also includes instructions for using the game pieces as a fraction math manipulative.
