Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • There are lots of embedded learning opportunities in this game for both younger and older children
  • This game does not use a timer.
  • This game would be great for families to play in advance of a trip to Washington D.C.

Considerations

  • Children who have visual weaknesses may find the game board overwhelming.
  • The instructions are complicated so an adult will need to help a child understand how to play this game.
  • The game cards have detailed reading and will be a challenge for children with reading difficulties; the cards do not do a sufficient job of stimulating interest in their content.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a unique game that visually introduces students to important landmarks in Washington, D.C. while teaching about the U.S. government. Through a combination of strategy and luck, players jump among Washington D.C. landmarks collecting a quarter, dime, nickel and penny as they go, while trying to gain control of the White House and gain representation in the Capitol and the Supreme Court to win the game. The youngest players will reinforce recognition of US coins and begin to recognize landmarks. Older students will absorb more details about important landmarks and also will acquire an introductory understanding of the roles of the three branches of government including how bills become laws. While the game is intellectually interesting, it is unlikely to hold most children’s attention for more than one or two rounds (approximately 10-20 minutes). The game provides plenty of opportunity for learning when played with an adult.
