Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • This is a fun yet simple game to help students improve visual working memory skills.
  • Unlike other memory games, the student can reference back to earlier turns to reduce chances of frustration and discouragement.

Considerations

  • The small pegs would be problematic for students who have difficulty manipulating small toy pieces.
  • The board is busy and brightly colored which might be distracting and frustrating for children with a weakness in visual attention.

Mindprint Expert Review

This classic game is an excellent choice for a two-player game that allows students to improve deductive reasoning and visual memory skills while having fun. Using colored pegs hidden behind a shield, one player makes a four-peg pattern while the other player has up to 12 turns to figure out the color and order of the pattern. The player must remember details from his previous guess to break the opponent’s code, yet has the opportunity to look at previous turns to refresh his memory. Twelve turns is typically sufficient for most players to guess the pattern, so students working on visual memory and reasoning skills can still “win” and not grow discouraged. Also, because there is an element of luck younger or weaker players can sometimes do better than older or stronger players making it fun for a range of players.
