Pros

  • The categories cover a wide range of familiar topics that children will find interesting including "Song," "It's Dangerous," and "At the Beach".
  • Students can learn and improve word recall and general knowledge in an enjoyable way.
  • Because players must slap the "I know" card first, there is less shouting compared to similar types of word games.

Considerations

  • Students with slower processing skills could get frustrated if they are not playing with an understanding group.
  • This game can be competitive and conflicts could arise if there is not proper mediation.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a simple but effective game that can be used by an adult to help students improve word memory and processing speed or simply as a fun family game. Using one set of category playing cards and one set of letter cards, players race to think of a word in the category that begins with the letter on the card. Each card is brightly colored and easy to read, so students are able to spend time thinking rather than reading. A broad variety of ages can play competitively against each other while all can improve upon flexible thinking. This game can also be a good tool for a parent or teacher to use with a child as an informal way to work on a variety of skills including flexible thinking, verbalization, vocabulary and general knowledge. This game successfully avoids the conflicts in other verbalization games by having the first play to slap the "I know" card say the answer rather than everyone shouting at once. Players may still disagree but the disagreements are less frequent and the overall game is a lot less noisy.
