Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Students who do NOT struggle with visual skills could use this game to further improve on visual scanning and processing speed
  • Students must keep score by adding points on cards, so it can be a good way for students who enjoy word games to practice math too.

Considerations

  • Students need strong memory skills to remember the other players' words as well as their own.
  • The cards have letters and point values so students have to concentrate on several tasks at once--forming words, capturing words, adding point values which will challenge students with a variety of weaknesses.
  • Though the game is marketed as a word game for students 6+ this game is probably too challenging for most elementary school children.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a challenging game that reinforces spelling and word recall skills. Players use cards with letter and point values to build, form, and “capture” words (add letters to opponent’s existing word to create a different word) while trying to obtain the highest scoring value. There are too many steps and tasks per turn to engage young children and improve the target spelling skills and similarly can be too much of a challenge for students with limited attention or visual weaknesses. This can be a good game for older children or adults to think flexibly and quickly but parents should not plan to use this game to improve on weaknesses in spelling, visual speed or visual scanning.
