Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Most children prefer this brightly colored game board to typical checkers.
  • The game is easy to learn and a good early game to build attention skills.
  • A broad age range can play competitively.

Considerations

  • Children who are easily visually overloaded may find the colors and spaces on the board a challenge.
  • Could cause disagreements if a player considers a move and changes his mind.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a great classic that teaches children visual strategy and planning. Using a hexagram (star with six points) shaped game board and different colored pawns (one color for each of 2-6 players), players make one-step moves trying to be the first to move all of their pawns into the triangle of their opponent on the opposite side of the board. Playing Chinese Checkers is a great way to improve visual reasoning, working memory and attention skills and can be a lot more enjoyable for some children than regular checkers. There are many alternative versions for children with strong visual preferences. Most versions come with marbles but this one uses pawns which may be preferable for those with fine motor weaknesses.
