Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • This game offers an excellent and fun challenge for students who are both good at math and enjoy fast--paced competition.
  • With no set-up and fast rounds, this game is a great time filler.
  • Adults can use the game as a tool to model flexible thinking.

Considerations

  • Each turn requires multiple calculations which will be a challenge for students who are not fluent in math or easily discouraged by math challenges.
  • The directions are complicated so will likely require an adult's help to get started.
  • Students who feel visually overwhelmed by numbers, might have a difficult time staring at so many dice with so many numbers at once.

Mindprint Expert Review

Math Dice Powers is a challenging game that provides practice with fast mental math calculations in addition, multiplication, division, subtraction, and exponents. Students use two sets of number dice in a sequential format. First, the student rolls two 12-sided dice, including one with exponents, to create the target number. Next, the student rolls the second set of three regular dice and must use them to create a math equation that will come as close as possible to the target number. This game is great for students who enjoy mental math challenges to improve their speed and numerical fluency. It is not a good game choice for students to play independently if they are easily frustrated when asked to make quick math calculations. However, an adult could certainly play with most students as a teaching tool using paper and pencil to write out equations and work through the process of figuring out potential solutions.
