Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • This game is very colorful and the visual appeal would attract most children.
  • This game is engaging and challenging for a student who has good attention and visual--spatial reasoning.
  • This game can be played competitively and enjoyed with a broad age range.

Considerations

  • This game could be very frustrating for a child under 9 even though the manufacturer recommends for 5 and up.
  • Children with weak fine motor skills may struggle putting the pieces in place.
  • While the game is visually appealing, it could be distracting for children with visual or attention weaknesses.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a colorful, challenging board game that requires players to use visual strategy, flexibility and focus to win the game. Players strive to be the first to fit their 21 odd-shaped pieces on the board while trying to block up to 3 opponents from doing the same. The trick is that all your own pieces must touch at an angle which grows increasingly challenging as the game progresses. Although this is a great game to develop spatial reasoning, strategy, and concentration, it is most appropriate for children older than 9 years despite the manufacturer's recommendation. The game requires strong attention and visual skills, and would be frustrating for a young child or older children with difficulty in these areas. However, a patient adult could use this game to help children develop those same skills.

Manufacturer Description

Stake your claim and protect your territory with the Blokus game! It takes less than a minute to learn, but offers endless strategy and fun challenges for the whole family. Each player gets a set of 21 pieces – in red, blue, green, or yellow – then takes turns placing them on the board. There’s just one rule: each piece you play must touch at least one other piece of the same color, but only at the corners! The goal is to fit the most pieces on the board. The game ends when no more pieces can be placed down, and the player with the lowest number remaining wins!
