Pros

  • There are easy and complex designs so all levels of visual skills will experience a fun challenge.
  • Children will learn to be more successful as they think flexibly and adjust their target in the middle of a round.
  • Optional opportunity to learn some words in foreign languages, though no reading is required to enjoy this game.

Considerations

  • The number of words, pictures and colors may overwhelm children with visual weaknesses, though adults could adapt the game for students by eliminating most challenging cards.
  • Students with very weak fine motor skills may have problems arranging the dice neatly and correctly.

Mindprint Expert Review

This simple, fun game will help develop visual skills, working memory and flexible thinking. Players replicate cute doodle drawings by combining the lines, dots and squiggles on six dice. Each brightly colored card has the color and picture name in English, French, and Spanish. For example, a blue card could have the words blue, bleu, and azul and sea turtle, tortue de mer, and tortuga marina, which provides an added level of learning. On each turn, a player rolls the six dice up to three times to match the drawings on the dice to one of the face up cards. Depending on the color of the card, students will need to use anywhere from one to six dice to replicate the picture. The winner is the first to successfully replicate pictures from all 6 different colored difficulty cards. This is an enjoyable game for all students, and will be particularly useful for students who need to strengthen visual skills including scanning information and paying attention to details. There is no timer and adults can easily coach a child with a move or selecting which card to target with the child still feeling personal success. Since there are equal elements of skill and luck, players of all ages can have a fun, competitive game.
