Say it Aloud to Understand & Remember

If your student struggles to remember what they read or hear

Instruction And Practice

  1. Objective: The act of speaking out loud information and hearing it will help students process and retain it more effectively.
  2. Model and practice speaking and repeating aloud information from a lesson or when studying for a test, especially information that requires rote memorization (vocabulary, spelling, foreign language, math facts). Encourage students to repeat the information out loud until they feel it stick.

Why It Works (the Science Of Learning)!

"Hearing" yourself say information will help you stay focused and retain it more effectively. Research shows that if you say something out loud, such as vocabulary words and definitions, you are more likely to remember it than if you just read, listen or think it silently. Making a conscious effort to repeat what you read or hear can improve your retention significantly.
