Mindprint Expert Review

Simon is a fun, classic electronic toy, now also available in app format, that can be a great way to help some students with visual and auditory memory and speed, as well as sequencing. The game plays a series of tones and colors and requires the player to repeat the pattern. The patterns grow increasingly long and complex as the child improves. Students can rely on both visual and auditory memory to be successful. However, Simon can be a fast-moving game which can be stressful or frustrating for some children. To test if the game will be helpful or too challenging for younger or struggling students, adults can start by having the child watch while the adult plays and makes mistakes. The child points out where the adult went wrong which is wonderful for confidence building. The primary focus should be improvement over time. Note how many tones a child can memorize after playing a few rounds, and be sure that the number improves with practice. If your child is not progressing, you will want to help your child develop strategies such as saying the colors aloud as they appear for reinforcement. One very nice aspect of Simon is that it provides both visual and auditory reinforcement which can help a child who has a weakness in either area.
