Pros

  • There are five different activities included in this app that are easy to use, and tutorials are included. In the activities the user can adjust the play settings to replicate a test--like scenario.
  • The audio and visual features are appealing to students in the recommended age range and support learning. Older students can turn off the cartoon avatars and sounds.
  • The app features multi--user support that saves student work, tracks student progress, shows a history of problems attempted, and can print or email statistics.

Considerations

  • This app only represents fractions in circular shapes.
  • Tutorials are largely text based, and do not have an audio feature.
  • When incorrect answers are selected the animal avatars make sad faces and a red x appears which could cause anxiety in some students.

Mindprint Expert Review

Jungle Fractions is an outstanding app that uses visual strategies to reinforce skills relating to fractions including identifying, comparing, adding, multiplying, and converting fractions. Users choose a cute jungle animal avatar to cheer on their progress as they practice selected skills on five different levels. Older students may choose to turn off this feature. This app is a great choice for students learning or struggling to understand fractions, as the app provides frequent feedback and multi-sensory approach. In addition, this app supports multiple users, sends progress reports to a printer or email address, and has a multilingual feature.
