Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Children are supported to learn sentence--writing skills with options to color code words, lines where words belong in a sentence, and to group words into phrases. A user can customize the color coding theme (colors assigned to specific parts of speech).
  • Audio features read individual words aloud as they are selected for use.
  • This app allows multiple users to create profiles that save work and keeps statistics on each players use.

Considerations

  • Students are rewarded with puzzle pieces after a specified number of sentences are completed correctly, and then the puzzle is animated once it is finished. It takes quite a bit of usage to complete a puzzle. The app would better motivate users if they could complete the puzzles more quickly.

Mindprint Expert Review

This is a terrific app that uses visual cues to help users learn to construct grammatically correct sentences. Throughout three levels of sentence complexity, users must drag and drop words to complete a sentence about a lively cartoon picture and then they have the option to record the sentence in their own voice. Students are supported with optional video tutorials attached to each screen and a variety of customization and color-coded cues. Children will love to earn puzzle pieces for an animated puzzle as they correctly drag and drop words into sentences. This app employs a variety of audio, visual, and tactile (touch) strategies to appeal to a wide range of users. This app can be a good choice for students in elementary school to practice constructing grammatically correct sentences in a relatively enjoyable way.
