Measurement Problems Checklist (a)

Before I Begin Solving:

  1. Get paper, pencils, colored pencils, and additional materials such as manipulatives, ruler, and protractor
  2. Read the directions. Do I understand what I need to do?
  3. Review the example problems from the teacher, my notes, or book

While I Solve:

  1. Read the problem twice
  2. Identify the type of problem: area, perimeter, length, weight, volume, angle measurement, or data
  3. If needed, draw a picture to visualize the problem. Use graph paper and ruler if it helps
  4. Clearly label my picture with numbers and units
  5. If I'm stuck, talk through or describe the problem out loud
  6. Carefully write out each step when I solve so I can go back and check my work
  7. Check my answers to make sure they are complete and make sense. Re-solve if needed. If I'm unsure, check my notes or ask for help
