3-D Building Sets to Strengthen Spatial Skills
If your child struggles to visualize distance and/or relationships between 3-D objects
Teach It!
Objective: Students will strengthen spatial reasoning skills.
Takeaways: a)Building sets are a creative way to develop problem-solving, organization and spatial abilities, which can contribute to mathematics and problem solving success. b) With the right support, students develop tolerance when things do not go as planned and they need to start over.
Activity: a) Build with your student or child. Encourage them to rotate and connect interlocking pieces to build creative structures through experimentation and without concern for "making mistakes". b) With many sets, students can follow the visual instructions to create a specific design, strengthening sequencing and visualization from 2-D to 3-D design.
Building sets improve visual motor coordination and spatial perception skills. Playing with building sets helps children develop a better sense of how objects fit together and an understanding of geometry and scale.
