Mindprint Expert Review

Pros

  • Kahoot allows teachers to have the entire class participating simultaneously which can increase student engagement.
  • Enables teachers to download responses after class, enabling them to understand if anyone in the class is struggling.
  • Can be a way to increase participation among more introverted students who might be less active in raising their hands.

Considerations

  • Depending on how the teacher uses it, it could feel too competitive for some students, especially the timed multiple choice questions.
  • The site encourages students to create and share Kahoots via social media, so any student with an account can access and play unfiltered Kahoots.
  • Requires teachers to set up all the questions in advance and might be difficult to add questions on the fly.

Mindprint Expert Review

Kahoot is a great website for teachers to create real-time quizzes for group discussion. The site effectively engages the entire class, as teachers post a question on a shared screen and students use their own devices to answer. There are options for multiple choice, discussion (i.e. short answer) or survey questions. Teachers program an unlimited number of questions in advance and have the option to include images or videos. Students can have from 5 to 120 seconds to answer. Teachers could decide to have students participate individually or as part of a team, and if they want to display student answers on-screen or call on students to explain their answer (e.g. can someone who responded "C" explain why). They also have the option to display a scoreboard, which can make Kahoot feel more like a fun game than quizzing. Overall, this site can be a great way for teachers to have students interacting and responding by using their own devices as motivation and creating a game-like atmosphere. However, this site might require teachers to be more sensitive to classroom dynamics, including students with slower processing speed, students who might have difficulty reading questions or answers independently, anxious students, or very competitive students.
