Non-Fiction Checklist (Bb)

Before I Read:

  1. Read assignment instructions. Re-state in my own words what I need to do
  2. Review any related materials (including vocabulary and notes)
  3. Skim assignment questions; jot down key words or concepts to look for

While I Read:

  1. Stop and summarize the main idea after reading each page or paragraph
  2. Highlight and/or jot notes of important information: key vocabulary and facts, info related to the questions
  3. Review all pictures or diagrams; read the captions

After I Read (if No Questions):

  1. Summarize new concepts; add to my notes; draw diagrams if easier
  2. Look up vocabulary I was unsure about and add to my notes
  3. Write out any questions or anything confusing so I can ask in class

Answering The Questions:

  1. Re-read and re-state the question in my own words
  2. If I'm not sure of the answer, return to my notes or re-read that section
  3. Re-read my answer and confirm I fully answered all parts of the question
